Understanding Your Ovulation Cycle
Follicular Phase
The first half of your cycle, from the start of your period until ovulation. Your body prepares an egg for release.
Ovulation
Usually occurs 12-14 days before your next period. This is when an egg is released and is viable for about 24 hours.
Fertile Window
The 6 days leading up to and including ovulation. Sperm can survive up to 5 days in fertile cervical mucus.
Signs of Ovulation
Look for changes in cervical mucus, slight rise in body temperature, and mild cramping or spotting.
Tips for Tracking Ovulation
Basal Body Temperature
Track your morning temperature before getting out of bed. It rises slightly (0.2-0.4°C) after ovulation.
Cervical Mucus
Monitor changes in cervical mucus. It becomes clear and stretchy, like egg whites, during your fertile window.
Ovulation Tests
Use ovulation predictor kits to detect the surge in luteinizing hormone that triggers ovulation.
